Belgique Looking for New Owners

October 15, 2013

Continental café chain, Belgique, has been placed on the market after its owners and founders Igor and Ann Bekaert appointed DCL to sell their bakery and delicatessen business.

Launched in 2005, the business has expanded across the South East and now comprises leaseholds in Bishops Stortford, Woodford Green, Chingford, Ware, Epping, Loughton, South Woodford, Theydon Bois and Wanstead. DCL is looking to dispose of the entire business, groups of sites or single units.

Josh Leon, Associate Director at Davis Coffer Lyons said: “Igor and Anne nurtured this very original concept from the very first store and, while it is largely run by the management these days, their passion still emanates throughout the business. There is a lot of potential for the new owner. The multi-format business is suited to high streets, shopping centres and transport hubs and so far all the sites are concentrated within half an hour of each other. I have no doubt that Belgique’s appeal and surprising price point will soon find fans a lot further afield than just Essex and Hertfordshire and it may not be long before we see it all around the UK. The introduction of its fledgling internet cake making side of the business too could be a significant area for growth in the new owners’ hands.”
