DCL Goes Walkabout

DCL the leisure specialists – has been appointed by Intertain to market the 12,700 sq ft Walkabout in Shepherds Bush, West London. The 1,150 capacity freehold premise, home to the popular Australian themed bar, currently has a licence until midnight.

Intertain – which was recently acquired by Barclays Ventures and a consortium of TPG Opportunities Partners and Goldman Sachs – is currently in the process of refurbishing its 35 outlets. The sale of this property is expected to finance this programme as well as funding further acquisitions.

Paul Tallentyre, Director at DCL commented: This is an excellent property in a fantastic location. As well as bar and pub operators we also expect to receive a great deal of interest from property developers who are looking to take advantage of the sites proximity to Westfield London. We hope to be able to announce a buyer later in the year (2013).

Season’s Eatings Day #5: Belvedere, Holland Park 🎄

The re-launch of Holland Park’s iconic Belvedere restaurant by Wild Tavern owners George Bukhov-Weinstein and Ilya Demichev was eagerly anticipated.

Rich in history, the site dates back to the seventeenth century; originally constructed as a coach house and the most expensive and lavish stables of their day, the former ballroom and political salon attracting the “Holland House set”, has been a place of eating, drinking and merriment for over 200 years. Byron met his lover here, and the Queen Consort’s mother threw a ball as “Debutante of the Year”.

Following a sensitive refurbishment, the stunning venue offers a taste of Southern Italy, with rich Tuscan interiors complementing a Mediterranean menu. Private dining features on the first floor, as well as a balcony within listening distance of the Holland Park Opera in the summer.

DCL acted for the owners of Wild Tavern of the acquisition of the lease.

Season’s Eatings Day #6: Stereo, Covent Garden 🥂

Stereo joined Covent Garden’s roster of excellent eating, drinking and entertainment venues at the start of the year, expanding pioneering international hospitality brand Experimental Group’s presence in Covent Garden, where it also operates Henrietta Hotel, Italian restaurant Da Henrietta and wine bar and eatery La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels.

Inspired by the vibrant late-night cultures of New York and London, complete with undertones of Parisian chic, @stereocoventgardenlondon offers a masterfully curated mix of music, food and drinks- a place to arrive for an aperitif, stay for dinner and dance into the early hours; ideal for festive fun!

Season’s Eatings Day #3: Kibou, Cambridge 🎁

Japanese-inspired restaurant Kibou continued its expansion this year, launching its fifth site in characterful Grade II listed building in the heart of Cambridge, at 7A Jesus Lane, which is also home to the Pitt Club.

The restaurant within the historic building houses a range of dining and drinking areas, including the colourful Mirror Room, with a Japanese cherry blossom tree at its centre, and The Oak Room, with a wisteria installation and a vibrant animated display. The cocktail lounge and dining area provides views of the open sushi and hot kitchen.

The menu mixes sushi and sashimi sharing platters with a range of classic and contemporary Japanese dishes, complemented by a range of Japanese-inspired cocktails, low and no-options and an ambitious selection of Japanese whisky, sake and umeshu and Japanese-brewed beers.

@kiboucambridge represents a fitting chapter in the steady growth of this ambitious brand – “Kibou” meaning “hope” – from humble beginnings in a 24-cover basement restaurant in Cheltenham in 2013.

Season’s Eatings Day #2: Larry’s & Audrey Green, The National Portrait Gallery 🎅

June’s long awaited re-launch of the National Portrait Gallery included a strong destination hospitality offering from new F&B partners Richard Corrigan and @daisygreencollection

Larry’s – named after Sir Laurence Olivier – is Daisy Green’s dynamic day to night venue in the historic vaults of the Weston Wing, which morphs seamlessly from brunch and light lunches to cocktails and small plates in the evening, with live music and a resident DJ. A ”martinis and masterpieces” drinks and exhibition package coinciding with gallery lates on Friday and Saturdays makes for an ideal date night.

Both Larry’s and ground floor café Audrey Green feature photography celebrating the West End from the National Portrait Gallery’s collection, featuring stars from London’s performing arts scene.

DCL advised the National Portrait Gallery on the appointment of its new hospitality partners.

Season's Eatings Day #1: 64 Goodge Street 🎄

In August, Fitzrovia welcomed to the fold Woodhead Restaurant Group’s @64GoodgeStreet, close to older siblings Portland and Clipstone. Hailed by Evening Standard’s David Ellis as “stylish, sexy and civilised – a triumph”, and praised by The Guardian’s Grace Dent for its “finesse without pretentiousness”, this French bistro has already established itself as a new neighbourhood favourite.

The restaurant conversion of this former travel agent presented a blank canvas for the acclaimed group to create a space in which guests “feel utterly taken care of”, and the opening has provided career progression for its team, with senior roles occupied by staff who have worked across WRG’s restaurants for a number of years, including Head Chef Stuart Andrew. Dishes that have garnered much attention include the snail, bacon and garlic “bon bons” and the lobster vol-au-vent with sauce Americaine.

The news is out! Jeremy King has announced that he will be re-launching “London’s last grande-dame restaurant” Simpsons in the Strand as part of his return to the capital’s restaurant scene.

One of London’s oldest restaurants, the 20,000 sq ft venue dates back to 1828. We were charged by the owners of The Savoy to source a suitable operator to take the historic site into the future, and we couldn’t be happier to see it in such accomplished and highly regarded hands.

King told The Times that it “will be more of a big-theatre brasserie but one that will very much hark on its tradition. I want people to walk in there and say, ‘Oh good, they haven’t changed it’, although it will have changed.”

@proseccocaffe have secured their second site at 26 Frith Street in Soho. Prosecco Caffe offers an authentic Italian experience at any time of the day – with an expansive coffee and Prosecco menu, as well as cocktails and a food menu with snacks, nibbles and desserts.

The concept aims to provide a convivial environment open to all age and income groups and is inspired by the architecture, colours and lifestyle of Venice.

Middle Eastern hospitality operator @nothingbutlove.lb has confirmed the opening of its second London site at 39 Cadogan Gardens, just off @KingsRoad.ldn in Chelsea; a letting secured by DCL for landlord Cadogan Estate.

@meatthefishlondon, opening at the end of May, will offer a “Mediter-Asian” menu featuring seasonal, local produce with a simple, clean food approach at the heart of its daily menu. DCL continues to source high quality F&B concepts for Cadogan’s ownership, with more announcements to follow. This is the second new international entrant to open within the month, following closely on from Giraudi Group’s launch of @cantinettaantinori_london, which DCL secured for Harriet Street.
