Famed Pogues Pub Filty McNasty’s Is Put Up For Sale

Filthy MacNasty’s Whiskey Cafe, once famed as a hangout for some of the worlds rocknroll population and formerly co-owned by The Pogues frontman Shane McGowan, has been put on the market through leisure property advisors Davis Coffer Lyons.
The attractive character pub on Amwell Street, close to Angel Islington, has been frequented by various rock n roll heroes with Nick Cave, Johnny Depp, and Pete Doherty among its regular drinkers. The pub is hailed to be the venue where the Libertines met and formed, whilst Pete Doherty was a former resident of the upstairs flat.
The venue also hosted readings from the likes of Irvine Welsh, Roddy Doyle, Ken Kesey, John Cale, Howard Marks, Paolo Hewitt, and Patrick McCabe, and impromptu free gigs showcasing new talent such as The Alabama 3, Spizz Energy, The Vipers, Vo Fletcher and Tom Hingley.
Nowadays food accounts for around 30% of the pubs sales but still pays homage to its rich creative heritage with bespoke artwork and commissions adorning the walls.

Its location close to the popular nightlife of Angels Upper Street and Clerkenwells Exmouth Market, has given it a destination status on one Londons unique backstreet parades home to quaint boutique retail outlets and cafes.
The premises comprise two bars on the ground floor, extensive external seating, and four-bedroom accommodation above. There is certainly significant scope to develop wet and dry trade here and we very much hope to find a buyer who can continue the tradition of this lively, upbeat venue popular among both locals and visitors to the area.
Davis Coffer Lyons is acting on behalf of the tenant, which also operates The New Rose pub on Essex Road, Islington. An asking price of £135,000 is being sought for the part-tied, 25-year lease, at a passing rent of £43,500 per annum.
