Jamie Oliver’s First Airport Restaurant Arrives at Gatwick’s North Terminal

February 15, 2012

Jamie Oliver’s first airport restaurant will open in Gatwick’s North Terminal this summer. “Jamie Oliver at Gatwick” which is due to launch in June will be an exciting addition to UK airport dining offering Gatwick passengers the same uncompromising standards of food and service that diners have come to associate with the highly successful restaurant group.

The new restaurant will provide a number of options for time-pressed passengers including a Jamie’s Italian restaurant complete with ‘grab and graze’ bakery and a Union Jacks Bar.

Situated with a spectacular view of the airfield, Jamie’s Italian will offer passengers the same high quality, authentic Italian food at affordable prices that helps the Jamie’s Italian collection stand out on the high street but with the exciting addition of a delicious breakfast offering. Glass-fronted food preparation areas will showcase an antipasti bar, hanging charcuterie and a fresh pasta making area, as well as a full sized pizza oven.

Adjacent to Jamie’s Italian will be Union Jacks Bar which, remaining faithful to the Union Jacks’ promise of using all British produce, will serve a selection of the restaurants most popular small dishes as well as bespoke menu for Gatwick passengers. In addition, there will be an ‘open’ beer cellar offering a large number UK sourced/produced beers and an all British wine list.

Finally the first ever Jamie’s Italian Bakery will be the ideal offering for time-pressed passengers. The bakery will serve a selection of freshly baked pizzas, delicious salads and sweet treats – perfect to take onboard a flight.

Jamie Oliver said: “This will be something really special. I’ve worked with my team to take the very best bits from Jamie’s Italian and Union Jacks and build them into something beautiful and exciting just for Gatwick.”

Occupying 6,000 sq ft, this exciting new restaurant offering has been designed specifically with Gatwick passengers in mind and forms part of Gatwick’s £1.2 billion investment programme to transform the airport and provide fresh, modern facilities.

Charlotte Christiansen, Business Development Manager, Catering & Services at Gatwick Airport commented: “Our partnership with Jamie Oliver heralds an exciting time for us as we continue to roll out our billion pound investment programme across the airport. With 70 per cent of departing passengers shopping, drinking or dining at Gatwick. We’ve worked closely with Jamie Oliver to create a concept that would appeal to all of our passenger groups – whether it’s a family or couple that have the time to sit down for a meal in Jamie’s Italian or Union Jack’s, or those simply wanting to ‘grab’ food to ‘graze’ on the plane.’’
