Junkyard Golf Club joins Westgate Oxford, anchoring Westgate Social

June 13, 2017

The Westgate Oxford Alliance is today announcing Westgate Social, a new food and leisure experience at the UK’s next large-scale fashion and leisure destination, Westgate Oxford. Westgate Social will be home to six foodie favourites and will be anchored by Junkyard Golf Club.

Westgate Social will provide a shared eating and leisure environment with freshly prepared food and a casual price point. Customers will be able to individually choose food from multiple brands and eat it together in a vibrant, communal space. Vendors already confirmed include Mexican restaurant, Benito’s Hat, Indian street food vendor Rola Wala and Shawa Lebanese’s Grill, with more to be announced in the coming weeks.

Westgate Social will be on the ground level of the new 800,000 sq ft development and will be anchored by Junkyard Golf Club, which offers scrapyard themed mini-golf for those who love quirky props, neon lights and cocktails. With something for everyone, Westgate Social will provide a relaxed leisure space for people to experience when they aren’t browsing the shops or dining and drinking on the roof terrace.

The £440 million Westgate Oxford development opening on 24 October, also announces today that its increasingly stellar retail and leisure mix has recently been bolstered by the new additions of international brands Timberland and Vans, as well as best of British retailers Neal’s Yard Remedies, Hobbs, Oliver Bonas and Loake Shoemakers.

Chris Legh, Co-Founder of Junkyard Golf Club said: “We’re really excited to join Westgate Oxford, giving local residents a completely unique day and night out, that is on a par with our leading cities. We have a huge space to play with so we’re going to fit in three courses, with crazy installations, like the Nicholas Cage-themed Lions Den and Clown holes and some awesome bars. Look out for slides, cars, boats and of course the usual UV and jungle madness that has made our venues famous. Our mission in life is to keep making crazy golf epic.”

Emma Mees, Senior Portfolio Manager at Landsec said: “With Westgate Social, we aim to lead the charge for next generation retail destinations by bringing our scheme in line with the rapidly changing lifestyle habits of UK and global consumers. Junkyard Golf Club is an innovative brand that has responded to customers’ increasing demand for high quality and unique experiences. We’re excited to have them on board, along with the other six world-class retailers we have announced today. We look forward to opening our doors in less than 5 months on 24th October.”

The new signings announced today join an impressive leisure offer at Westgate Oxford, including boutique cinema chain Curzon Cinemas and restaurants, Pho, Pizza Pilgrims, Shoryu and The Breakfast Club. These brands will sit alongside an ever-growing line up of premium and high street favourites at Westgate Oxford, including T2, Smiggle, Smashbox, Levi’s, Skechers, Acuitis, Seasalt Cornwall and Cath Kidston. The full brand line up can be seen in the notes to editors. Davis Coffer Lyons advises Westgate Oxford on restaurant property leasing.
