Lloyd-Jones Bowls a Hat Trick with New Pub Acquisiton in Wandsworth

Multiple pub operator, Gareth Lloyd-Jones has made his third acquisition in the market with the purchase of The Bowler in Wandsworth, SW17, from Prospa Ltd. The property it to be renamed, The Althorp.

Davis Coffer Lyons advised on the purchase of the food-led public house, comprising a 3,700 sq ft site on ground and first floor, located facing Wandsworth Common. A premium was paid to the vendor together with the grant of a new a 25 year lease which expires May 2040. The premises are located close to the Michelin-starred Chez Bruce in the popular area of Bellevue Road known locally as “Nappy Valley”.

Lloyd-Jones is the owner of The Canonbury, pub and restaurant in Islington, N1 and The Spencer in Putney, SW15. He was formerly Chief Executive of Gourmet Holdings, which owned the Richoux and the Bel and the Dragon pub chain.

Commenting on the new acquisition, Lloyd-Jones said, “Our customers want good quality, sensibly priced food and drink served within an atmospheric, family orientated environment. This new acquisition is no exception and we will work hard to bring more life to this site over the months ahead by investing in the fabric of the building, upgrading the menu and introducing award winning beers and real ales to improve our customer’s experience.”

The Althorp already has an established following for its separate dining area to the rear of the building offering an a la carte dining experience together with a variety of evening activities such as quiz nights, wine evenings and acoustic sessions. It has always been popular with families due to its family-friendly facilities.
