Meadowhall is Centre of Attention with New Restaurant Signings and £7m Redevelopment

April 15, 2011

Meadowhall, Yorkshire’s premier shopping centre developed by British Land and London and Stamford, will be welcoming five new restaurants in 2011. Its Oasis Dining Quarter has announced that Giraffe will be the first of five new signings, taking 3,433sq ft at the centre in Sheffield, as part of the family friendly chain’s target to open its 50th site by the end of the year.

The new signings are in conjunction with a £7 million redevelopment of the Oasis food court at Meadowhall, which is now underway to transform the area into a sleek and contemporary 61,000 ft Dining Quarter, The works are due to be completed by October 2011.

The redesign will create two very distinct areas in the centre’s catering offer; a formal 34,000 sq ft dining space on the upper level, and a redesigned lower level totalling 27,000 sq ft and featuring three new specially designed kiosks. A mezzanine level with intimate and informal areas to eat in a modern and flexible environment has also been created and will increase the overall seating capacity.

Alice Keown at Davis Coffer Lyons, leisure agent for the scheme, said: “The catering offer at Meadowhall is playing an increasingly key role in driving both footfall and sales. It was therefore essential that the centre provides not only the nation’s most loved brands like Giraffe, but also that the catering environment complements the increasingly popular shopping destination by offering a really attractive and vibrant place for people to relax and refresh.”

The CEO of Giraffe, Russel Joffe, commented: “The choice of location for any new restaurant is very important for us and we feel Meadowhall works for our brand across all levels from the customer to location. The Oasis Dinning Quarter is set to raise the bar for all other shopping centres’ and we are pleased to be part of this new development, offering a family orientated experience for guests.”

Clare Juniper, Asset manager for Meadowhall added: “We are creating a more interactive and enjoyable dining experience whilst raising the standards considerably for this very important element of any retail and leisure destination and we are very excited to see how our guests will respond.”
