Meadowhall’s New Oasis Dining Quarter Awarded “Best Refurbishment” at BCSC Gold Awards

January 9, 2013

The new Oasis Dining Quarter at Meadowhall Shopping Centre has been hailed the retail property industry’s ‘Best Refurbishment’ at the BCSC’s Gold Awards. Recognising the UK’s most creative and innovative shopping schemes, the British Council of Shopping Centres awarded Meadowhall in the Refurbishment and Extension category following a £7million redevelopment of the Oasis food court to transform the area into a sleek and contemporary 61,000 ft Oasis Dining Quarter.

Davis Coffer Lyons was instructed by British Land, joint owner of the centre, to give strategic advice together with marketing to revamp the foodservice offer at Meadowhall, which was completed in October 2011.

Alice Keown, Associate Director at Davis Coffer Lyons, said, “This is a terrific award and great testament to how the food and beverage offer within a shopping centre can substantially improve the centre’s performance as a whole. The contribution by the food and beverage operators to Meadowhall’s turnover has dramatically increased, with the foodservice offer now much more reflective of the new retailers and the recent investment into the centre.

“It was decided to keep the powerhouse performing operators and supplement them with new arrivals through the creation of new space and active asset management. New enclaves were created throughout the centre by infilling and new outlets were added to reflect the adjacent retail resulted in the arrival of Yo Sushi! and the Cafe Rizzoli Prosseco Bar in the premium mall.”

Michael Green, Chief Executive, BCSC, commented: “Yet again the bar has been set so high and all winners have demonstrated excellence in their respective categories. Whilst the industry continues to face challenging conditions it is highly encouraging to see long-term investment in our shopping centres and it is right that we reward these efforts tonight. This year was as competitive as ever with a number of outstanding entries, boding well for the future of the industry.”

Davis Coffer Lyons represents British Land as retained leisure agent, with Smith Young advising on retail throughout Meadowhall.
