Pioneer of New Spanish Cooking in the UK to Open Second Site

September 12, 2011

The celebrated Spanish chef, José Pizarro, has completed a second deal this year on a site in Bermondsey Street, London SE1 through leisure advisory firm Davis Coffer Lyons.

The second restaurant was secured on a new 20 year lease at a passing rent of £75,000 per annum exclusive, just 200 metres from the original site, “José”.

José Pizarro already operatesa tapas bar called “José on Bermondsey Street, which opened in May to roaring acclaim and is set to open Pizarro – a larger site also on Bermondsey St – at the end of October following a complete refurbishment of the premises.

This second site was formerly the home of Bermondsey Kitchen, and will serve 40 covers, including a private dining room. Unlike the original tapas offering of José, Pizarro will offer bigger places in a more traditional dining room layout for a full size Spanish restaurant. The new site will also showcase an extensive list of Cavas, as well as wine and Sherry from small producers in Spain in keeping the restaurants emphasis on quality and provenance. The new restaurant will also be offering wine and food matching in the private dining room.

José Pizarro said, “Opening José was the first part of my dream realised. It’s been so exciting and I’m already so proud. But I want to show people that there is more to Spanish food than just tapas. When I get together with my friends and family in Spain a quick lunch often turns into something which lasts for hours. This is what I want to encourage people to come and experience at Pizarro”.

José will be opening Pizarro with his business partner Hervé Durochat, who will manage both sites.
