Polpo Founders Launch their First Pub in London’s Seven Dials

July 25, 2013

DCL are delighted to have let the former Marquis of Granby at Cambridge Circus, gateway to London’s Seven Dials, to Polpo founders Russell Norman and Richard Beatty to launch their first pub.

Ape and Bird will retain a pub atmosphere while providing all day dining options. Its 120 cover restaurant will focus on wholesome and hearty British dishes including mince and dumplings, Scotch egg with celeriac fries, devilled kidneys on toast and whole poached trout with cobnuts and watercress. It will be launched in October (2013).

Kate Taylor, Associate Director at DCL commented: “We can’t wait to see the results of Russell & Richard’s first foray into the pub market; it may be a far cry from Venetian cichetti but we’d expect the same level of innovation, excitement and attention to detail that has defined the pair’s other venues to date. This is a key gateway to Seven Dials and a very important addition to its eclectic eating and drinking offer. ”

The opening of Ape & Bird will follow hot on the heels of Bone Daddies’ new concept Flesh & Buns in Earlham Street, as well as Homeslice’s recent opening in Neal’s Yard. Three further food units are under offer to a range of innovative operators, which will cement Seven Dials’ position as an exciting dining destination.
