Thackeray Group have achieved planning consent for a 4,500 sq ft roof terrace at 3-4 St Mary Street in Cardiff city centre. Giles Hoare, Investment Director, said “We are delighted to have secured consent for this exceptional roof terrace. This unique opportunity will attract a whole raft of occupiers looking to expand as COVID restrictions ease. Thackeray Group continue to actively seek further opportunities within Cardiff as one of the UK’s fastest growing core city centres.”

The extremely rare double fronted unit is located on the pedestrianised section of St Mary Street, a short walk from the Principality Stadium and Cardiff Central Station. St Mary Street, along with the surrounding thoroughfares, are widely considered the prime pitch in Cardiff for F&B and Leisure operators. Nearby occupiers include The Botanist, The Alchemist, Head of Steam, Brewdog, Honest Burger, Pho and The Potted Pig, as well as several other independent and corporate operators.

The premises comprise approximately 11,827 sq ft on ground floor, basement, first floor and second floor, plus a 4,500 sq ft roof terrace, offering panoramic views of the city. A new 20 year lease will be granted and offers are sought from restaurants, bars, food halls/markets and experiential leisure operators, although all uses will be considered.

Louie Gazdar said ‘This is a unique opportunity for an established operator to secure a prime flagship building providing 4,500 sq ft of outdoor space – in a world where outdoor dining, drinking and socialising will be increasingly important as operators look to anticipate an inevitable change in consumer behaviours following the pandemic.’

Cardiff is one of the UK’s fastest growing cities, with a population of 1.5m people, working population of 230,000 in the city centre alone and 70,000 students across 3 universities. Central Cardiff has an annual footfall of 41 million, with over 1 million visitors passing through the gates of the Principality Stadium each year.
