July 21, 2021

The team behind The Cheese Bar and conveyor-belt concept Pick & Cheese have launched their latest restaurant, The Cheese Barge, at mixed use campus Paddington Central.

Designed by Adam Richards Architects and built by master boatbuilders, the striking vessel – which takes design cues from the Electa bookstore in Venice – occupies a permanent mooring on the Grand Union Canal.  A beautiful copper “veil” acts as an awning for the 40 cover lower deck dining room, which sits below a 20 cover open-air upper deck.

Dubbed “a floating temple of cheese” by hospitality web site Hot Dinners, The Cheese Barge serves a refined menu of honest British dishes using small producer cheese under Head Chef Reagan Ellenbroek and Exec Chef Ross Keeling, alongside a rotating list of seasonal British cheeses with individual pairings, curated by Head cheesemonger Sam Wilkin.

The 11-acre neighbourhood has also welcomed Wagamama in a 4,845 sq ft unit overlooking Sheldon Square’s amphitheatre. The 162 cover restaurant features a heated outdoor seating area at the front as well as a rear terrace, and was designed with ample space for click and collect and delivery.

Davis Coffer Lyons acted on behalf of British Land to let the rare “floating restaurant” opportunity and the restaurant at 3 Sheldon Square.
