John Lewis Launches Winter Rooftop Pop-up on Oxford Street

November 10, 2016

Following the success of its summer rooftop dining experience, The Gardening Society, retailer John Lewis has launched a winter garden pop-up on the roof of its Oxford Street store, giving guests the opportunity to hire private dining lodges and take part in a range of masterclasses.

Opening this week (w/c 7 November) and running until New Year’s Eve, The Gardening Society pop-up is styled as a festive and immersive forest, featuring winter warmer dishes from Mac & Wild, including a hamburger created exclusively for the venue and seasonal cocktails from Background Bars.

The decor has been inspired by Britain’s woodlands and forests, with guests entering the rooftop into a natural fir tree glade, with wooden picnic tables among vegetable patches.

The area features three cosy private dining lodges with ‘hot toddy bells’, seating between four to eight diners. Visitors can use the bell to order dishes and drinks and the lodges house their own individual sound system that can be linked to smartphones.

Mac & Wild, Scottish Highlands game and seafood specialist will be offering masterclasses hosted on the roof.  It will include learning how whisky is made, with single malts tastings with UK ambassadors, pairing whisky with chocolate, whisky and beer tastings and a Balblair Haggis-making class, where guests can find out about the ingredients and make their own, as well as taking home a dram of Balblair’s finest whisky.

John Lewis opened a summer rooftop this year that hosted pop-up restaurants alongside an Etsy pop-up shop.
